Fair Deal Scheme & Funding
Fair Deal — An Overview
The Fair Deal Scheme is a government-funded programme in Ireland that helps individuals meet the cost of nursing home care. Under the scheme, a person contributes a proportion of their income and assets, and the State covers the remainder of the nursing home fee.
While Fair Deal provides important support for families, it currently applies to residential nursing home care rather than care provided in the home.
Campaigning for Change
We believe families should have the right to choose how and where their care is provided — and that public funding should support that choice. We actively advocate for:
• Greater flexibility in how Fair Deal and HSE care funding can be used
• The right of families to direct allocated funding toward live-in home care
• Equal recognition of live-in care as a legitimate, high-quality care option Until such policy changes are achieved, we provide our service on a private basis and will continue to support families in understanding their funding options.
